LAUNCH OF THE ‘GROUNDED IN KNOWLEDGE’ NATIONAL SOIL TESTING PROGRAMME
‘Grounded in knowledge’ is the title of a three-year research programme carried out nationwide by Grupa Azoty and its partner PKO Bank Polski, to measure pH and nutrient content of soils in Poland. Under the programme, the companies plan to reach almost 2,000 farms across Poland and have 28,000 soil samples tested by the Regional Agrochemical Stations.

“After our Competence Centre, this is another knowledge-building project grounded in science. It is being implemented in cooperation with Poland’s largest bank PKO Bank Polska and the National Agrochemical Station. Details on the project can be obtained from our field consultants. Also, information about the project has been published in the ‘Agrolider’ magazine and on the industry website nawozy.eu,” says Paweł Jarczewski, President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty.

The aim of the project is to promote optimum fertilizer application technologies best suited to a given type of crops and the nutrient content of soil, as well as to promote the development of new fertilization technologies and fertilizer products that cater to the needs of Polish farmers.

Under the “Grounded in knowledge” programme, at least 93,000 ha of land across Poland will be tested free of charge to determine the nutrient content of soil.

The project is the first effect of the strategic partnership forged by Grupa Azoty and PKO Bank Polski in the Agro segment. The agreement between Grupa Azoty and PKO Bank Polski is consistent with the government’s strategy for cooperation between state-owned companies. In line with the strategy, joint investments are key to effective use of state assets and an increase in the value of enterprises supervised by the Minister of the State Treasury. At the same time, PKO BP’s cooperation with the Grupa Azoty Group is to be a significant element of the bank’s new strategy for the agricultural and food sector.

“One of PKO Bank Polski’s priorities is to support Polish entrepreneurs and to provide funds for the development of the Polish economy. This is why we pay so much attention to the agricultural and food sector, which delivers products that are highly-valued all over the world. The cooperation with Grupa Azoty lets us better understand the specific needs of agricultural entrepreneurs, which change depending on the phase of the production cycle. We know how to meet their expectations and provide optimum financing for their businesses,” says Jakub Papierski, Vice-President of the Management Board of PKO Bank Polski.
