GZNF FOSFORY TO MAKE FERTILIZERS FROM WASTE
Recycling plays an increasingly important role in the context of increased efforts to optimise operations and promote sustainable development in the chemical industry. Therefore in August 2014 Gdańskie Zakłady Nawozów Fosforowych Fosfory, a member company of the Grupa Azoty PUŁAWY Group, began to make use of phosphates from the retention reservoir at the landfill site in Wiślinka.

A solution that meets both environmental and economic objectives

The benefit of producing phosphate fertilizers from landfill site leachate is twofold. We reduce the amount of waste held in the reservoir and save on phosphoric acid and water, which is discharged into the atmosphere as pure steam in the production process. In August and September alone, we processed 3,185 tonnes of leachate.

What we make from waste

The phosphorus recovered from leachate is re-used in the manufacture of such fertilizers as Amofoska® and our flagship product, Superfosfat. Feedstock obtained by recycling leachate, which will be fully used up within the next two years, will enable the company to produce up to 200,000 tonnes of fertilizers.
