Thanks to the availability of raw materials and advantageous location, Poland has become Europe’s wood processing hub for the furniture and construction industries. Poland is the world’s fourth largest exporter of furniture, with the sector accounting for approximately 2% of its GDP. Melamine is a non-toxic product of the thermal decomposition of urea. Similarly to urea, it is extensively applied in the manufacture of amino resin adhesives for the wood processing industry.
Maciej Karnicki, Kronopol’s CEO, emphasised that the agreement concluded with Grupa Azoty Zakłady Azotowe PUŁAWY on February 9th 2015 was of key importance to Kronopol, considering the former’s wide access to feedstock meeting the most stringent quality and safety standards. Securing a steady supply of crucial raw materials is necessary to back Kronopol’s business strategy of continuous growth.
Increased melamine and urea capacities underpin the development of many industries, including manufacture of wood-based boards. Paweł Jarczewski, President of the Grupa Azoty Management Board, stressed that the long-term contracts with Kronopol were yet another proof that the Company’s earlier investment decisions were right, expressing his conviction that both parties would benefit from a closer relationship.
