Commissioning of mechanical granulation line two - in line with the project plan, the Management Board of Grupa Azoty Puławy has given the green light to start the mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning of Nitrate Mechanical Granulation line two. The decision marks another phase of one of the largest fertilizer projects implemented in Poland. Each of the two mechanical granulation units has an estimated daily production capacity of 1,200 tonnes of mechanically granulated nitrate or 1,400 tonnes of CAN. The first line started commercial operation on June 11th last year.
The project aims primarily to:
Replacement of TG1 turbine generator set
The completed project to replace the TG1 turbine generator set at the onsite combined heat and power plant included replacement of the steam turbine, including auxiliary equipment, the generator, including excitation and power evacuation systems, and the control systems. The turbine generator set has been installed on the existing foundations that were properly adjusted before the installation.
The new set has a capacity of 34 MW, 4 MW more than the previous set built in the 1960s. Its cogeneration system produces process heat and electricity. The turbine is equipped with seven steam extractions, including three at the process steam level, enabling a high degree of heat and electricity cogeneration. The result is a lower unit heat consumption rate per MWh and thus lower CO2/MWh emissions compared with the previous machine.
The high availability, high degree of cogeneration and higher capacity help to reduce the volumes of electricity purchased from the national grid and increase the security of power supply for process units. In addition, the applied control systems significantly improve workplace safety and working conditions.
In line with the previously announced scope of activities, we have been continuing our capital projects without disruption since August 22nd 2022. Our ongoing and completed projects increase our production capacities and help us adapt our plant to the requirements of the European Green Deal, while also responding to the needs of modern, sustainable agriculture and reducing the carbon and energy intensity of our processes,’ said Tomasz Hryniewicz, President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty Puławy and Vice President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A.
