The Grupa Azoty Group has released estimated output figures for August, highlighting the third consecutive month of steady growth in nitrogen fertilizer production. In August, Group companies manufactured an estimated 251,000 tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers, a substantial rise from 140,000 tonnes in May. As regards compound fertilizers, in July the Group reported production of 47,000 tonnes, with estimates for August at 54,000 tonnes. This upward trend has been primarily driven by a marked improvement in demand, especially evident when compared to the demand patterns from the first half of 2023.
However, in the Plastics and Chemicals segments, the import of tariff-exempt non-EU products, made with cheaper feedstocks and frequently sourced from war-sanctioned countries, continues to pose growth challenges.
“As anticipated, we have witnessed a considerable rise in demand within the Agro segment during the third quarter, leading our Group companies to ramp up their fertilizer production.Yet, the Plastics and Chemicals segments face persistent challenges. The extensive influx into Europe of non-EU products, made from cheaper raw materials and manufactured under more lenient regulations, predominantly from Asian countries, remains a hurdle for our Group,” says Tomasz Hinc, President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A.
